Went with little expectation and only had 1,5 days but it turned out to be a really fun trip. Center of Yerevan is nicely mantained place with some beautiful and historic spots. It is especially pretty in the evening with beautiful lights, fountains and loads of life. Getting around the city is quite easy as Yandex taxi is super cheap and easy although I did have problems with instalation until I got Armenian esim. Museum of Armenian genocide is both under and overwhelming. Entire museum is set up in a way that you pretty much don’t have the option but to start reading as it’s mostly text backed with photos. Upon arriving there I had no intention of spending over an hour just reading text after text about the genocide but at the same time once you start it pulls you in to keep going and it leaves a very bitter feeling learning what the Armenian people have been through. At the end of the day I guess it’s an effective way to actually make vistors take time to learn about the horrors they endured.
My biggest regret is not having time to do a couple of get your guide trips out of the city. Also, while I did meet some polite people, most Armenians seemed completley disintereated in tourists and most didn’t speak English. I would only get a bit of friendliness when I would leave a tip - then they would also showcase that they do know a bit of English language (just to avoid confusion, it’s not my native language either but it is lingua franca of modern world). Additional interesting fact - Russians are everywhere (both as tourists and living there) and I honestly had the most impolite reactions from them rather then Armenians. Never before did I get to a point of apologising for making an order - one Russian girl at the lemonade stand rolled her eyes so bad I almost walked away.
All in all - interesting country, wouldn’t mind coming back one day. Not a place to go on a honeymoon but if you want to take an unusual Euro trip and not spend alot - this is the place to go. Thank you Armenia for a fun trip!
