Tulum, Mexico and Cozumel, Mexico

Last month, we went on a trip to the Mexican Caribbean. And instead of having your standard tourist experience by visiting the Mayan ruins and hanging out at tourist spots, we went for an adventure (ok, I have to admit, not an extreme adventure, more like family friendly):

So, we flew into Cancun (which was a very rough start due to huge delays) and took a rental at the airport to drive into the jungle. Actually only 3 miles into the jungle, but it felt much longer, due to it being a gravel road with huge potholes. Anyway, we stayed at something between a tree house and an airbnb, with no hot water and barely any pressure. But for what it was, it was still luxurious. And they had an observation tower: We really felt like being in the middle of the jungle, well, which we were. There, we went cave diving which was breathtaking (quite literally I might add. Since I got sth stuck between my face and mask and it kept filling with water. To clear it out, under water, in the dark, with no water surface in sight… Well, it stressed me out…)

Anyway, after spending 2 days there, we continued to Playa del Carmen and took the ferry to Cozumel. Mhhhh, that was a bit too fast now… So, on the way and upon arrival, we filled our stomachs to explosion with some great Mexican food! Especially in Cozumel. And since we have been there a couple of times, I can recommend the Taqueria Diaz. And don’t forget to order their homemade flan!

Anyway, after waking up the next day, I felt pain in my ear and water stuck inside. While the others went diving, I went to see a doctor, without success… He would only work at 9 pm… But this gave me the chance to walk inland and to meet some great local people! If you visit the island, I can only recommend to stay away from the tourist spots and go past the 30th avenue. That’s where it all starts to be local. You will meet great people and get a glimpse of how life is on this island. And not just experience the tourist side of Cozumel.

Overall, it was a great experience and something I did not really plan for. Yeah, there were much more adventurous trips in my life, but this one was so nice because it was completely unexpected. Above experience is also available as video on my channel if you prefer that.
