Tokyo, Japan - 4 Less Touristy Places to Visit in July 2026

I recently visited Tokyo again and wanted to see something new. Here are a few places visited and enjoyed. They weren't touristy much at all and were a lot of fun:

1. Matsuoka Museum (Shirokanedai station) was established by a wealthy industrialist with very sophisticated taste in art. The subject matter is wide raging - from Egyptian to Henry Moore sculpture - and of the highest quality. I especially liked the collection of Gandharan Buddha and Bodhisattva statues and the Chinese ceramics. The museum is in a quiet residential neighborhood and the modern building has a beautiful garden courtyard.
2. Mitsukoshi Department Store, the flagship location in Nihombashi. People watching here is amazing. The basement food court alone is worth the trip; I bought two packages of ume boshi paste and a bento box that I ate in the train station and could have purchased much more. I also discovered a photography exhibit featuring images from the Beatles first visit to Tokyo and an art gallery filled with contemporary artists' works (all for sale).
