We spent 9 days in Tanzania and 5 more in Zanzibar. It was the closest to nature I’ve been in a long time, with almost no TV or screens. Traveling with a 16 year old and an 11 year old, we weren’t sure how this nature adventure would be received. I can tell you it was absolutely awesome!
5 of the Tanzania 9 days were in the Serengeti, and one in the Ngorongoro Crater. The wildlife is everywhere, and nature there can be as cruel as it is beautiful. You really have to watch a lioness catch a wildebeest once to understand it.
Then we spent three days in a Maasai village. We were told that the tourism income there goes back into the community, mostly schools and health care, which made the stay feel even better.
Near Kilimanjaro, we got my favorite moment of the whole trip: a sunrise right between Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro. After that, we finished with a few quiet days on the beaches of Zanzibar, which was the perfect way to slow down after the safari.
Has anyone been to this part of the world? What was your best sunrise or sunset? Mine was 100% Kilimanjaro.
