Sustainability is the latest excuse hotels use to save money

I've noticed that with every trip lately, there's a new hotel room essential that is suddenly no longer provided because of "sustainability."

There are no slippers because they're disposable. No bottled water. Towels and sheets aren't replaced unless you arrange them in a certain way to signal that you want fresh ones. Need a vanity kit? You have to ask for one every time.

Just a few years ago, these were standard complimentary amenities. Now, it feels like the new standard is finding ways to provide guests with less and calling it sustainability.

I have absolutely no problem with being more eco-friendly, but if something is being removed in the name of sustainability, I think it should be replaced with a better, genuinely sustainable alternative. not simply removed altogether. Especially when I'm staying at a 4 or 5 star hotel.

At this point, it feels like a very convenient way for hotels to cut costs at the expense of guests' comfort, under the guise of being environmentally friendly.

Am I the only one who's been noticing this, or are other travelers just less dependent on these amenities than I am? Should I start packing slippers and Q-tips every time I travel?
