Sri Lanka... or somewhere else?

My husband and I are planning our next 2 week trip for this summer. I think we are about 80% set on Sri Lanka but open to other ideas we may not have considered. Priorities are affordability (we usually spend under $100 per night for hotels), nature, food, history, culture, animals, scuba, beaches, and kiteboarding, and ability to get away from crowded touristy areas. We usually change locations every few days to really explore the countries we visit. Some recent places we have enjoyed: Colombia, Puerto Rico, Crete, Mexico, Bali. Flying from west coast USA but not really relevant since we are willing to fly all the way to Sri Lanka! Other places I'm interested in: Azores (but maybe too expensive?) or a different island in Greece (but we went to Greece on our last trip but it was also my favorite place ever). I'd love to hear other people's favorite destinations for a couple of 30-something adventurous types. Maybe there's a destination I haven't considered enough!

Edit to add: my hesitation about Sri Lanka is the mixed reviews of the food situation.
