We flew into Muscat and rented a 4x4 SUV. We drove the winding, rocky Hatt Mountain Road through the Jebel Shams mountains, stopping for some great hiking. We continued on to Bahla and Nizwa where we explored the souks and ancient forts. We continued on to the desert, stopping at the Beehive Huts on the way. We then spent the night in a Bedouin camp. We ended the trip back in Muscat, where we explored the city and its glorious architecture.
We did this trip in February 2025, but I just discovered this subreddit and with Oman in the news currently I felt like revisiting the wonderful time we had. Everyone was soooo kind. At the Beehive huts, for example, locals on a picnic flagged us down and *insisted* that we join them for afternoon coffee.
The diversity of scenery was incredible, too. Citylife, mountains, desert, wadis, and we even went snorkeling with sea turtles in the Gulf of Oman on a day trip to the Dimaniyat Islands (no photos of that unfortunately!)
