Bit of a sensationalist title, I don’t mean they’re disappearing in that sense but I’ve been travelling around a bit of everywhere this summer (16+ Airbnb’s/hotels).
It has to be noted that peak summer brings peak prices ofc. I’ve been trying to go for decent medium priced places (200-300 for 3 nights). Holiday inn express, newer hotels, modern Airbnbs, older hotels. They’ve varied but all hovered towards an average middle - pretty much 3-4 star hotels.
I don’t even really care about amenities or services. The issue is that probably 90% of these places have been dirty, bedsheets with hairs, bloodstains, discoloured. Ants, mould, dirty toilet, very noticeable wear and tear.
If you can’t even get a basic clean place for a few nights at this price range, what are we even doing? trying to seek out a decent basic place and yet it’s still pricey and the bare minimum isn’t there. I could’ve gone much lower objectively (in price and quality) and probably not be that much worse off which is what prompts me to make this post. It’s like the middle is disappearing and only really expensive boujee places provide decent cleanliness.
Is this a shared experience or am I tripping?
EDIT: not dominantly USD, a mix of GBP and EUR. This is also with brand hotels like Ramada, etc.
