Wanted to make a post acknowledging that ive had 8 flight cancellations so far this year. I currently have to fly from new york to miami a lot, and so ive taken around 40-50 flights this year. 8 out of 40 or 50 flights puts my flight cancellation rate at around 16-20%
cancellation 1: Feb 17th NK1988
Cancelled before I got to the airport. due to bad miami weather. earliest rebook i could get was wednesday night.
cancellation 2: Feb 24th AA 815
cancelled before i got to the airport. due to the historic blizzard in new york. Got a flight for later that day to newark. my full commute worked as follows: miami metrorail -> metro mover -> plane -> multiple train shuttles as it was not normal operations -> bus -> nj transit -> lirr (1 transfer). got home around 4:00am and total commute time was around 12 hours.
cancellation 3: March 17th F94196
probably before i got to the airport. due to weather in chicago affecting planes coming to miami i believe. had to take a 1 stop flight to altanta then new york. my flight to atlanta was delayed about an hour at the arrival gate. my flight to new york was delayed probably 2-3 hours including the aforementioned 1h. flew to jfk, took the airtrain to the lirr, got home at around 4:00am and total commute time was around 9 hours
cancellation 4: March 26th, NK1759
cancelled before i got to the airport. due to the plane crash that happened the prior sunday. planes were displaced and mine was one of them. left that friday from newark instead
cancellation 5: April 2nd, NK 1803
cancelled right at the gate. there were actually 2 flights going from lga to fort lauderdale at that time. i thought i was on the first and got on line but the person at the gate corrected me that i was on the second. the first flew just fine and the second got cancelled 5-10m later. i did not rebook that flight
cancellation 6: July 6th, AA1202
cancelled as i was stepping off the metro mover to the airport. due to weather in ny. had to rebook for another flight the next day
cancellation 7: August 6th, AA3088
cancelled at the airport. seems as if it was due to weather conditions between miami and ny, not necessarily at either city. i was able to rebook for another flight that same day at around the same time
cancellation 8: August 6th AA2949
the flight that i had rebooked to also got cancelled. i ended up flying the next day to fll
i work in-person in new york on tues-thursday so any flight to new york that got cancelled was especially disruptive
some honerable mentions that werent flight cancellations but just my luck:
spirit shutting down this year. i had a 700 dollar voucher with then that i can no longer redeem.
frontier stopped servicing miami from ny sometime in the spring, so now no more budget options and i had to start flying
oil prices rose which also made my flight costs rise. these 3 combined effects made me go from paying 40-90 a ticket to around 200

cancellation 9: August 11th AA0525
cancelled mid day the day before the flight. due to bad weather around new york. I did 4 rebookings in order to get a new flight that fit best with my schedule: 1 for Aug 11th later that day, 1 for Aug 10th (same day) to ewr, another for Aug 10th to jfk almost immediately, and the last was Aug 10th to jfk later on in the day, but still required me to leave almost immediately
cancellation 10: August 20th AA2949
cancelled as I was at the airport. rebooked the flight for next day and got a standby for another flight the same day. since the flight i was on standby for also got cancelled, I got a second standby. that standby was delayed 2 hours from the departure i was told when booking it. when i got on the plane the door wpuldnt close and required maintenence. the maintenence team took long to arrive so it took around 100m to get a push off from the gate. I made it to miami that night
