Have your interests in traveling changed as you've gotten older?

When I was younger, I focused on international travel and always crammed as much sightseeing in as I could. I've been to several countries in Europe and Asia. I'm around 40 years old, and traveling abroad doesn't excite me as much. I've seen so many temples in Asia that I'm not really wowed when I see another one. Experiencing big, bustling cities, taking trains to get around, and eating street food isn't as much fun anymore. I guess it's because I've done so much of it that it's no longer exciting. Even air travel itself is an annoyance whereas I enjoyed it when I younger.

Nowadays, I mainly take long road trips in the U.S. Enjoying a nice, leisurely drive for several hours and stopping somewhere to camp or stay in a motel is fine. I've taken long driving trips from Texas to Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, Illinois, Michigan, Florida, and New Mexico over the past few years and I haven't burned out on that yet. It's kind of nice to get out in nature, do some hiking, and visit places where there are fewer people, everyone speaks English, and I don't have to deal with airports.

I still travel abroad but not nearly as often. Also, I'm willing to spend a little bit more for more comfortable accomodations. I don't simply pick the cheapest place like I did when I was younger.

I also don't feel the need to see everything when I travel, and I'm okay waking up at 8 am and enjoying a leisurely breakfast rather than waking up at 6 am and packing as much into a day as possible like I did when I was younger.

I guess all of that's a part of getting older. Thoughts?
