So I booked a Greyhound bus and now that the trip is getting closer, I’m realizing I genuinely have no idea what I’m doing 😅 I’ve traveled before, but never by bus, and for some reason it feels way more unpredictable than flying or driving myself.
I guess I’m just looking for general advice from people who have done this before. How early do you realistically need to get to the station? I don’t want to show up ridiculously early and sit there forever, but I also don’t want to cut it close and miss it.
I’m also not sure what the luggage situation is like. Do they actually check bag sizes and weights, or is it more relaxed? And is it safe to put your bag under the bus, or should I plan on keeping anything important with me at all times?
Another thing I keep wondering about is comfort. Are the buses usually freezing cold or weirdly warm? Should I bring a blanket or is that overkill? I’m already planning on headphones and snacks because I’m assuming it’s not exactly a luxury experience.
I’ll be traveling alone, so if there’s anything safety-wise I should know, I’d really appreciate hearing it. Not trying to be dramatic, I just function better when I know what to expect.
Also……. what’s the general atmosphere like on Greyhound? Do people mostly keep to themselves? Is it easy to sleep??? Am I overthinking this?????
If you’ve taken one before, what’s something you wish someone had told you before your first trip?
Honestly I’m excited, just a little nervous stepping into the unknown. Thanks in advance for any advice, I truly appreciate it.
