Costa dels Caps - Calpe - Altea - Benidorm

Travelling by public transport is my main means of visiting places, but from time to time a road trip is totally unbeatable because it provides speed, flexibility and practicality. I must admit it was not really necessary if I had more time, but I did not, so after Murcia and Cartagena I woke up early and got on the road northeast bound.

My first stop was in Torrelavieja, where I was kind of underwhelmed as I expected a more clear pink lake, but this was one of those places were a drone would do miracle. Spain is, unfortunately, nightmare to fly in so I did not even bring my drone for such a short trip.

Next destination was Playa de la Granadella, but I turned back halfway because of the insane queue. I like to visit beautiful places, as everyone else does, but destinations that become too vital and logistically nightmarish are a big no for me, as I have little to no patience to deal with crowds and traffic. Changed course north to Platja de l’Arenal where I had a marvellous mid morning swim in warm and shallow waters.

Coming back south, I did a small detour to the Mirador del Moraig being presented with one of the most beautiful postcard views I’ve have had. This place is gorgeous, and the spot was totally empty.

After sipping in the blue water colours, I headed for Cala el Porter where I had my (marmita) for lunch by the sea with a marvellous crystal blue by my feet. After the second swim of the day, it was time to move forward to Calpe, with a scorching hot sun over my head. The old town was very calm and I actually enjoyed the historical narrow streets that contrasted greatly with the hideous skyscrapers a few hundred meters away. Another sip in the ocean and the clock was starting to tick, so I put some gas and stopped on my next destination.

Altea was definitely a good surprise, even though I already had high expectations and knew it was a very famous tourist spot. The hilly white streets, cute coffee shops and a marriage going on on the main church made it the highlight of the rushed day.

Least, but not last, straight to Benidorm but a last sip in the ocean and a walk around the old town - I believe it became obvious I’m not a big fan of modern architecture - such as nice but quite small and unimpressive, which the exception of the main church in a cliff and the balcony in front of it toward the open seas.

I wanted to visit also Villajoyosa but my time and running out and even though I’m quite a fast traveller I refuse to run places just for the same of ticking a box on a note. So I left the car in Alicante airport less than 48 hours later with Murcia, Cartagena, Costa dels Caps, Calpe, Altea and Benidorm on my Flickr travel albums.

Next comes Alicante and Valencia, in a much less rushed manner!
