Bots bots bots! Learn the signs and Report any you see!
At the risk of "alerting" these bots, the community itself might be the best way to deal with this.
We're absolutely flooded and they've blended in like the rest of us. They do NOT write like the usual patronizing AI/ChatGPT/Claude bots with em dashes and "it's not X, it's Y".
They are very casual and they look like a regular commenter.
However, if you read very carefully it still has the tone and cadence of ChatGPT/AI output. It gives very generic (and sometimes wrong) and reassuring advice and still makes strange analogies and comparisons. The comments still contain very little actual substance since it merely paraphrases what the OP is asking/saying.
Some of you have probably even upvoted them recently!
CHECK THIS ALBUM FOR SAMPLES.
Please please please report them, even if you're only like 30% sure it's a bot or not.
You can also submit the profile link to r/BotBouncer yourself but if you report them here, we'll take care of that through our moderation tools.
Things to check in their profile history on top of this:
- accounts are all less than 3 months old; most profiles are under 21d old as of today.
- very few comments/contributions in the same subreddit repeatedly
- one-off comments in subreddits including, but not limited to:
- r/Dreams
- r/AirBnB
- NBA-related, other sports related
- r/backpacking
- general advice like r/Marriage r/GetStudying r/Advice and other open-ended question subs
- r/Christianity
- one thing to note, these are the subs that must not have bot-bouncer installed because their bot comments are still visible after being reported
And courtesy of grantwwu:
- does not get into extended conversations or reply to the replies to their own comments (e.g. someone calling them out as a bot)
- they have same sycophantic, casual tone of voice. They tend to latch onto points in the post or comment they're replying to, affirming the user
- lack of *any* mistake a human would make - grammar is usually impeccable, no spelling mistakes - even when writing in lowercase and very casually
- with limited profile history, they somehow coincidentally run into the exact same travel problem/situation/experience the OP has
