Where do I even start, this country was unique but beautiful
I had an incredible time here. I'm Canadian but I travelled with a Syrian friend who knows his way around here, so obviously this was not a hard travel for me, and I'm not an experienced traveller either. We spent the first few days in Damascus, then made our way to Homs and then to Lattakia.
The people of Syria from my lens are probably the nicest and most hospitable people I have met. I travelled to Egypt and Syria is the exact opposite, people would literally invite me to everything ( their homes, free food etc) once they found out i was a foreigner. I never had instances where I felt unsafe.
Man, if you are a history enjoyer you would Love this place. You find places that are mentioned in the bible here they're so old. The Old damascus Market, the krak des chevaliers, the umayyad mousque are all wonderful sites you need to visit one day. Pictures do not do them justice
The restaurant scene is also extremely nice here. The culture is so vibrant. Food is amazing, especially Shawarma, cherry Kebab, and Kibbeh. I heard eveyrhting they eat is produced in Syria, so the food is very organic and fresh.
The only "negatives" I would say is that it can become pretty chaotic and overstimulating at times haha. There is also a problem with smoking, nearly every person smokes cigars here, and it can become overwhelming at times.
