2 weeks in Guatemala / Belize / Mexico

27M America - I recently took a solo trip to Central America. I got the idea to do Mexico from Chichen Itza being the closest world wonder, and that expanded into Guatemala and Belize because the internet said Tikal was better (they were right). I would do this trip differently knowing what I know now, but in life you learn the hard way!

I got lucky and was able to get close to the 11/15 Gen Z protests in CDMX, it was very interesting to get a front row seat to see how Mexico's political situation is unfolding.

While I did not see Uxmal, Tulum, or Yaxha - I would rank the 4 ruins I did see in the below order:

  1. Tikal
  2. Teotihuacan
  3. Chichen Itza
  4. Xunantunich

Tikal is proper jungle exotic, and Teotihuacan was way bigger than I expected. After seeing those, Chichen Itza was a bit of a let down with how touristy, expensive, and small it is. Xunantunich is just small in general.

Trip Length: 12 days

Destination(s):

  • 1 night Flores, Guatemala
  • 1 night Tikal, Guatemala
  • 1 night Xunantunich, Belize
  • 7 nights Roma Sur, CDMX, Mexico
  • 2 nights Valladolid, Yucatan, Mexico (Chichen Itza)
