2 weeks in France or France/Italy

Hey everyone! My fiancé and I are going on a trip in late April/early May. I have been looking around at options for flying in and out of Paris and spending the entire time in France or flying into Paris and making our way from South France to Florence. I’ve read a bunch of posts about how much there is to do in the various regions of France, so I could see it making sense to focus our time and energy there, but I’ve always wanted to go to Florence and/or Bologna (seems like an awesome place to visit for food-lovers). Have any of you done a trip that splits time between the two? And if so, was it a good idea or do you feel like it was too crammed? Our original intent was to focus on South France, so does making Italy part of the trip seem a little unreasonable?
